Christianity in Chinese Character @ 3:57 PM
Ever thought that chinese cultures are linked with the bible?
Why do people celebrate Lunar New Year?Legend has it that in ancient China, Nian ("Nyehn") was a man-devouring predator beast that could infiltrate houses silently. The Chinese soon learned that Nian was sensitive to loud noises and the color red, and they scared it away with explosions, fireworks and the liberal use of color red domestically. These customs led to the first New Year celebrationslook at the story above and compare it to this:
Exodus 12:1-13The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in Egypt, "This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year. Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each man is to take a lamb for his family, one for each household. If any household is too small for a whole lamb, they must share one with their nearest neighbor, having taken into account the number of people there are. You are to determine the amount of lamb needed in accordance with what each person will eat. The animals you choose must be year-old males without defect, and you may take them from the sheep or the goats. Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs. That same night they are to eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs, and bread made without yeast. Do not eat the meat raw or cooked in water, but roast it over the fire—head, legs and inner parts. Do not leave any of it till morning; if some is left till morning, you must burn it. This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD's Passover. "On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn—both men and animals—and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD. The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
what the similarity? Some of you may realise that the similarity is in the red colour of the blood and the red that the 'nian' is afraid of, and that 'nian' and the angel of death sent by God all came to take lives
Heres some words that we went through during the sermon...
義(Righteousness)
祥(Prosperity)
福(Blessings)
first...義(Righteousness)
義 is made up of 羊(Lamb)+我(me)
We can only live a righteous life when we have the Lamb of God in us.
Romans 3:22
This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believes, there is no difference.
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
We can live a righteous life when we have Christ in us.
2nd word of the day
祥(Prosperity)
祥 is made up of 礻+羊
-What does it mean? it means that when we obey the lamb of God, He will bring prosperity into our lives.
-Obedience is the key to allow God to bless you in your life!
-To truely obey God, we gotta die to ourselves.
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. -Lastly...福(Blessings)
-福 is made up of 礻+一+口+田
-What does it symbolise?
-礻 represents God while 一口 represents 1 person.
-in the bible, we know that God blessed Abraham with a field(田)
-What field did God placed us in?
-When we begin to obey, we'll begin to experience blessings.
Matt 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."-The most fundamental blessing that God gave is the presence of God.
-God always wants to provide for you and me. .
Matt 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
John 16:24
Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
It is never out of date to share the word of God to your friends and family.
