Title: Attitude
Speaker: Pastor Daniel
-Our choice of attitude cannot be affected by others.
-our life is 10% of what happens to us and 90% of how we respond to these changes
- choice of our attitude is the 'single string' that can keeps us going or make us crippled in our progress. if we choose to move on with the single string and not think of the other broken ones, we will be able to go on, otherwise, we will not.
-we have to begin to change things that we can change, and not wait till the last minute and regret of our actions
Greatest waste of energy is spending it to fight against the inevitable
4 things that we can do with a positive attitude!1. With a positive attitude, we can turn obstacles into oppotunities!
Philippians 1:12-26
Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.
It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me.
Our attitude towards things make it either an oppotunity or a difficulty
2. Positive attitude is constagious. (Phi 1:14)
Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.
3. Positive attitude don't allow situation change our reaction.
Phi 2:14
Do everything without complaining or arguing
Ability is what we are capable of doing
Motivation determines what you do
Attitude determines how well we do it
4. Trust in all situations
Worry and anxiety takes up joy's place in my heart.
Negative attitude causes us to go into 2 kinds of situations: blame or self-pity
Blaming-ourselves-will cause us to feel guilty and lose self-esteem
Blaming-Fate-self explanatory
Blaming-Others-Creates distance and barrier between people
Blaming-God-cut off the source of power to turn situations around
Blame never affirms, it assaults
Blame never restore, it wounds
Blame never solves, it complicate
Blame never unite, it separate
Blame never smile, it frowns
Blame never forgives, it rejects
Blame never forgets, it remembers
Blame never build, it destroys
2nd type of situation: self-pity
It is passive
It is the number one enemy to fulfilling your dream.
one and only solution: Go to God!
Example of paul and silas turning to God while they are in need
Acts 16:25
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them
