Overcoming Temptation

>to be faithful, you gotta be an overcomer
>temptation is not a sin
>as christians, we face temptations and most of the time we sin because we did NOT choose to walk away

1 Corinthians 10:12-14 (NLT)
If you think you're standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different than from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not let the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure. So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols.

>devil uses to attack God, he wants to take revenge on God
>devil studies our life and observe us inside out
>he knows you more than your mum.

1. don't ever think you're stable (v. 12)
>don't ever think you're stable and you won't fall into the devil's trap.

2. don't think your temptation is special (v. 13)
>it is common to man
>we always focus on our temptation
>you're not alone
>everybody face temptations
>even if people fail, God can still turn their life around
>even Jesus was tempted but HE did not fall into sin
>Jesus understands

temptation is like a Y-junction
> you have to choose the high road or the low road
>like a fork in the road
>in order for you to be strong, God allows you to struggle so that you'll be stronger its for you to share the devil
>as much as we dislike, we can't escaoe
>as you get stronger, it get tougher, but you get better
> don't test your resistance
>when temptation comes, run like crazy


7 points [ temptation overcomers checklist]

1. recgonise the possibility of temptation
>forewarn, is forearm
>don't let the devil sneak up on you
>don't put yourself in a position such that you'll compromise
>it all comes back to choice.
>TEMPTATION IS A CHOICE


2. request help in times of temptation
Matthew 6:13
Matther 26:41
>help us keep an alert
>be careful everyday, be watchful

3. resist the devil and he will flee from you
flee= RUNNING AWAY WITH FEAR
>the best way is to use the word of God
>you need to know the word of God
>Jesus only used 3 verses from Deuteronomy and the devil flee from Him.!
>the devil knows the bible well too
>the irony is christians dont like reading the bible, but the devil loves it.!
>know your enemy and you win the battle

EVERYTIME, THE DEVIL REMINDS YOU OF YOUR PAST.
YOU REMIND HIM OF HIS FUTURE.

4. retreat from certain kinds of temptations.
1 Corinthians 10:14

> idolatry
-an idol = anything that comes between you and God
-don't sit down and allow other things to take God's throne

>immorality
-1 Corinthians 6:18
-2 Tim 2:22
-flee from youthful lust
-wrong is wrong, right is right
-you can't masked the right.

>greed
- 1 Timpthy 6:10-11
-the love of money is the root of all evil
-all kinds of evil come from materialism
-the more you want, the less you get
- the more you give, God will return you even more.!

5. remove any means of sin from you
>take a different route
>dont't make it sound as if it's ok.!

6. replace bad influences with good ones
Proverbs 13:20
2 Corinthians 6:14
>don't allow them to influence you
>you gotta stick out, hang around with people who will lead you to Christ.!

7. resolve to take the high road
>we've to chose the way with God, or the way with road
>don't choose to stay in the middle of the Y-junction
>for it is being lukewarm, and half hearted, and God will spit out of His mouth



I challenge all of us, and everyone in cellgroup, that whenever we face temptations,
we will choose to take the high road. But not the low road not stay in the middle as it is not beneficial.
