God speaking to His people.
Experiencing God [unit 5]

If a christian doesn't know when God is speaking, He is in trouble.
John 8:47
John 10:2-4

It is written that God's sheep would recgonise His voice.
Therefore, because we are His sheep, we need to hear His voice!

God spoke though

• angels [Arch Angel Gabriel and Micheal]
• vision [Genesis 15]
• dreams [Genesis 28:10-19] [Joseph]
• A gentle whisper [1 Kings 19:12]
• Miraculous signs [Exodus 8:20-25]

There are many ways in which God can speak to us.
However, we should be more interested in what He says than how He says it.

3 factors that is important when God speaks

1. It is unique to the individual
   -there is no specific technique,
2. The person will be 100% sure it is God
3. The person will know what God is saying.

God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the bible, prayer, circumstances and church.

The key to know God's voice is though a LOVE relationship.

• it is not by a formula
• it is not by miraculous signs [indication of unbelief]
• it is not open/close doors

We either choose to listen to God or we dont.
God does use circumstances ot speak to us but we cannot rely totally on it!

1. God speaks to us through the Bible.

• Man does not live on bread alone [2 Tim 3:16-17]
• Without the Holy Spirit, the bible will just be a story book.
• You cannot understand God with your own intelligence.
  1 Corinthians 2:11-15
• The Holy Spirit will reveal to you spiritual truths through the bible.
• Write down what the Holy Spirit reveals! [Journal]

5 things that happen.
1. You read the word
2. The Holy Spirit reveals the truth
3.You adjust your life to the truth
-your reaction is important.

Moses paid a hard price because he chose to do it his way. He argued with God! The day will come when He choose not to speak to you if you REFUSE to respond or obey Him.
Amos 8:11-12
Don't let what God has said to you drop to the ground.
4. You obey Him
>disobedience will lead you to nothing.
>God will take away whatever you have
>Hearing and listening is one thing. Obeying is another!
5.God will work through you

2. God speaks to us through prayer
> prayer is a 2 way communication; fellowship
>but for many of us, its only one way
>what God says in prayer is far more important than what you say!

>prayers are for you to adjust to God and not God adjust to you!
>alot of time, prayers are about ourselves and for ourselves

>we fail to realise God already knows what we want according to His will
>when we ask according to His will, we'll get it.

You can encounter God anywhere!

2 things about prayer

1. spiritual concentration
   >our life need to tally with our prayers.
   >there must be a connection
   >when you pray, you need to watch out for God's answers
2. God keeps quiet sometimes
   >John 11
   >you may be discourage
   >but He keeps quiet because He wants you to see a deeper dimension of Him.
   >His silence is not rejection!
